Verified has researched all 50 states and interviewed legal and state employees
regarding accuracy of records, the procedure for searching records, and what
information is available in each state. Some states offer arrest and conviction
records, while others offer conviction records only. Some repositories do not
report dispositions, requiring a more detailed county or municipal search. Some
states require fingerprints to obtain criminal records, for which Verified has
partnered with the appropriate resources, and has obtained all state forms
required to provide reasonable turn-around time.
Unfortunately, some states are considered “closed record” states, meaning
statewide repositories for criminal information are not available. These states
require criminal record searches be conducted at the county or municipal
levels.
